Say It Loud, I'm Black And I'm Proud.

While visiting a friend recently I noticed he was reading "The Black Swan".  I realized today my entire professional career was summed up by the book but with a bit of a twist.

I've always been the black sheep, the sideshow for folks.  While this is a role, I grew up having to learn to control, as an adult it's been a help and a hindrance.

As an IT professional of some sort, I now realize that I am the child of a black swan and black sheep.

Black Swan (via Wikipedia):

The theory was developed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb to explain:

  1. The disproportionate role of high-impact, hard to predict, and rare events that are beyond the realm of normal expectations in history, science, finance and technology
  2. The non-computability of the probability of the consequential rare events using scientific methods (owing to the very nature of small probabilities)
  3. The psychological biases that make people individually and collectively blind to uncertainty and unaware of the massive role of the rare event in historical affairs

Black Sheep (via Wikipedia):

The expression Black sheep refers to someone incurring group sanctions because of behavior(s) violating group codes or expectations

So I've decided that to celebrate my rebirth, I would post a photo I recently took while visiting Australia.
